Three Grant Programs

The Foundation gifts dollars to our 15 schools through a grant program. Our three grant programs are Foundation Educator, Innovative Teaching and The Foundation Arts.

Foundation Educator
In 2004, as a response to community concerns about larger class sizes and limited teaching resources, The Foundation created the Foundation Educator Grant to provide funding for principals to use in supplementing their teaching staff, as they thought best. The school needs have been as varied as the personalities of the students. Foundation Educators have been part-time music teachers, after school writing instructors, reading assistants, math assistant for all learning levels, ELL tutors, and a high school senior seminar personnel that also assists with job shadowing, internships and community service. The school needs are continually changing, and The Foundation has been there to help address those needs.

Innovative Teaching
This program was started in 2006 through the generous bequest of a community member, Les Joel, in memory of his mother. This grant encourages instructors to think beyond their current teaching tools and curriculum. The ideas that have come forth have been impressive. Innovative Grants have been used to fund Amazing Math Packs for elementary students, Lego eLab sets

for middle schools to build models to test alternative power resources, such as solar-powered cars, purchasing technology to fully integrate technology with teaching methods, buy Vernier sensors for science experiments to help illustrate abstract concepts, purchase supplies for the FIRST robotics team at Tualatin High, and to support an arts program that uses art as communication between students at Tigard High and students in Poland.

The Foundation Arts
In 2007, The Foundation began hosting the longtime community event, Art In The Burbs. Proceeds fuel the Arts Grants provided to every school. Grant money is used for materials, supplies, programs and/or staff for music, drama and art, depending on the schools’ needs. Past grants have funded drama props and lighting for Fowler Middle School, digital printers & scanners for high school photography, musical instruments, music stands and music literature, after school arts programs and additional materials for under funded art literacy programs. The Arts Grants has been a boost to the arts.
