Caring Closet
Several years ago, a group of FTTS staff members recognized that some students were having difficulty thriving in school due to their family’s inability to provide basic needs. These families are the working poor – they don’t qualify for assistance, yet paying food, rent and and even laundry can be difficult. The Caring Closet was established to assist these families in meeting needs that might otherwise be left behind.

School clothing, adequate school supplies and backpacks, items that many of us take for granted, are instrumental for a child's development.

Today the Caring Closet helps disadvantaged families in our school district through payment of medical deductibles or bills, purchase of special equipment, and by providing clothes and household items. Recipient students are recommended by school principals, teachers or counselors. Funding is provided through proceeds from Foundation fundraising events, a United Way grant and donations from local service groups and businesses.

The Caring Closet is operated for the collection and distribution of new and used clothing, towels and blankets. Additionally, consumable items are distributed and our need is great. Please consider an additional donation of laundry detergent, toothpaste or any other necessary toiletries.

Donations and the help of concerned volunteers will be greatly appreciated Mondays through Thursdays, 1-5 pm in the portables at the Tigard High School parking lot between the main building and the pool, 9000 SW Durham Road. To volunteer, please contact Marilyn Hassmann at 503-603-1576 or by email. You may direct questions or comments to the Caring Closet voicemail at 503-603-1577.
